The Pigskin Gladiators Face Off

By Hedy-Jo Huss, Soldotna

We are the Eagles. Patriots are our prey.

It is Super Bowl Five-Two today.

We raptors are in it to win it.

Not only the gladiators assembled in Minneapolis to play.

At $3,000 or more for a ticket,

Full house seems not to regret.

Scalpers circling in a Rolls? R-E-A-L-L-Y?

To fork out the max, how S-I-L-L-Y!

Oh! To have viewed from a toasty corporate skybox.

For the guests, no-cost food and grog.

For starters, there’s lox.

Filet mignon topped with bernaise.

What’s the best part?

Someone else pays!

22-12 come halftime.

Come on gladiators from the Northeast state,

You musn’t whine.

From the preferred seating

section, Mrs. Brady’s expression

went from beaming to confused.

What if Nieman and Marcus

her next big-ticket purchase would refuse?

Performer Justin Timberlake

may have felt upstaged by

the beyond-cool light show,

but the crowd definitely did not know.

Time-outs and more

opportunities were available.

Passes — and yes — touchdowns

were completable.

The annual classic pigskin championship game over, 41-33.

Eagles had soared to the top of their tree!

P.S. To Patriot fans

If things don’t go your way today — condolences.

To all, Super Bowl 53 is only a year away.
