Larry

By Gaye LaRane, Kenai

Larry sits on the rocks shapeless

in green hooded jacket and sweat pants.

His white socked and black flip-flopped feet

dig into the gravel bank.

How he wishes for a King.

Full of anticipation

Larry casts his line into the deep channel.

The lure wiggles back toward shore calling

“Here I am, King, come and get me.”

Larry sees the red body roll in the quiet pool.

When the tail emerges from the river

he knows the King has arrived.

Tightening his grip,

Larry checks his line and prays.
