Thursday hoops roundup: SoHi girls score big comeback in Ketchikan

The visiting Soldotna girls basketball team notched a 32-30 victory over Ketchikan on Thursday in nonconference action.

The Stars improved to 7-2 overall by erasing a 19-5 halftime deficit earned by not scoring at all in the second quarter. SoHi outscored KayHi 11-6 in the third quarter and 16-5 in the final frame.

Dimond boys 61, Ninilchik 48

The Wolverines fell to the Lynx in the opening round of the Alaska Prep Shootout at Dimond in Anchorage on Thursday.

Onyx Allen had 16 points and was named Player of the Game for Ninilchik.

The Wolverines play in the consolation bracket Friday against Ketchikan at 3:30 p.m.

Palmer Elks Tournament

The Homer girls won, while the Soldotna and Homer boys lost, Thursday in Palmer.

The Soldotna boys lost to Juneau-Douglas: Yadaa.at Kale 64-49. The Stars fell to 6-3 as the Crimson Bears avenged an overtime loss to SoHi earlier in the season.

Easton Hawkins pumped in 15 to lead Soldotna, while Izaiah Gilbert had 8, Jayden Stuyvesant had 7, Owen Buckbee had 6, Theo Huff had 4, Bryan Berg had 3, and Sam Strouse, Josh Babcock and Damari Adams had 2.

For Juneau, Ahmir Parker led the way with 19.

The Palmer boys topped Homer 78-61 to drop the Mariners to 0-4 overall.

Henry Wedvick came up with 17 for Homer, while Spencer Dye had 13 and Einar Pederson had 11. Also, Steven Burns had 8, Preston Stanislaw had 7, Jamen Anderson had 3 and Ben Engebretsen had 2.

Leading the way for the Moose were four in double figures — Logan Rolston with 17, Nolan Garner with 16, Lukas Owen with 15 and Maddox Moore with 12.

The Homer girls notched their first victory in four tries by topping West Valley 41-29.

Channing Lowney poured in 19 for the Mariners, while Keagan Niebuhr had 11. Also, Madalyn Miotke had 5, and Stella Condon, Emily Stafford and Mally Im all had 2.

Arianne Derrickson’s 13 led the way for the Wolfpack.

Birchwood Bash

The Cook Inlet Academy boys won twice on the opening day of the tournament in Chugiak to move to 4-2 overall and 2-0 in the Peninsula Conference, while the CIA girls split games and are 4-1 and 2-0.

The CIA girls started the tournament with a 37-32 victory over Birchwood Christian that also counted as a Peninsula Conference victory.

Ella Rollman led the way with 23, while Kristi Stoll had 4, Isabella Porsi had 3, Brandi Harkleroad, Beka Dillingham and Maria Smith had 2, and Maddison Curren had 1.

Peyton Smith had 14 for Birchwood, while Elise Becker had 11.

The CIA girls then lost 87-35 to Newhalen, with Ida Lester leading the victors with 26 points.

Rollman pumped in 19 for the Eagles, while Smith had 7, and Harkleroad, Dillingham and Kelsi Curren had 2.

The Eagles boys started the day with a 89-68 victory over Birchwood, which also was a Peninsula Conference victory.

Ian McGarry erupted for 36 for CIA, while Alek McGarry had 26. Also, Brady Baeten had 8, Brandt Rollman and Zach Armstrong had 7, Silas Barnes had 4, Matthew Phillips had 3 and Hyrum Henderson had 2.

Kaleb Worland had 25 for Birchwood, while AJ Severns had 19.

The CIA boys then defeated Tanalian 71-25.

Alek McGarry led the way with 16, while Ian McGarry had 13, Phillips and Armstrong had 11, Rollman had 9, Barnes had 4, Lucas Oyoumick had 3 and Baeten had 2.
