The Soldotna baseball team defeated West Valley 4-1 on Thursday at the Buddy Dale Invitational in Wasilla.
The Stars are now 1-6-1 overall and 1-1 at the Buddy Dale Invitational. The Division II Stars have only played Division I competition thus far this season. Soldotna continues at the tourney by playing Colony at 9:30 a.m. Friday. Saturday play is determined by results of the first three days of the tournament.
Matthew Schilling was the driving force for the Stars to get their first win of the season.
Schilling went all seven innings on the mound, giving up a run on three hits while striking out seven and walking nobody.
The southpaw also batted leadoff and went 2 for 3 with two runs and an RBI. Trenton Ohnemus also had a big game, going 3 for 3 with a pair of RBIs.
