Sunday: Twins split doubleheader with South

The American Legion Post 20 Twins split a doubleheader with South Wolverines Post 4 on Sunday at Coral Seymour Memorial Park.

The Twins are 4-2 in the league and 6-3 overall, while South is 3-2 in the league and 5-3 overall.

The Twins jump back into action Wednesday, June 19, with a 12:30 p.m. doubleheader at Eagle River.

Post 20 won the league game 5-3 for its sixth straight victory.

Twins starter Trenton Ohnemus made up for the only blemish on his dominant season for Soldotna High School by collecting the victory.

For the Stars, Ohnemus gave up just four earned runs in 34 innings pitched this season, and three of those were in the one inning he pitched against South.

The Wolverines jumped on Ohnemus for three runs in the top of the first Sunday, but he was in control from there.

Ohnemus went all seven innings and gave up the three runs on six hits while walking one and striking out nine.

The Twins scored four in the bottom of the second and one in the bottom of the third.

Hunter Williams was 2 for 3 with a double, a run and two RBIs for Post 20, while Jayden Stuyvesant was 2 for 3.

Derrick Jones, Gabe Smith and Malakai Olson added hits for the Twins.

The Wolverines snapped Post 20’s win streak with an 8-6 victory in the nonconference game.

The Twins led 6-4 entering the sixth, but Post 4 scored three in the sixth and one in the seventh.

Post 20 had six hits, with Levi Mickelson going 2 for 2 with two runs and two RBIs.

On the mound, Matthew Schilling gave up two unearned runs on two hits in three innings, Williams took the loss by yielding five runs on six hits in three innings, and Jones gave up an unearned run on no hits in an inning.
