Mt. Edgecumbe basketball sweeps Kenai

The visiting Kenai Central girls and boys basketball teams were swept by Mt. Edgecumbe on Wednesday in nonconference action.

The Mt. Edgecumbe girls defeated Kenai 56-48 to drop the Kardinals to 11-7 overall.

Kenai had a 9-7 lead after the first quarter, but the Braves jumped out to a 28-13 lead at the half. The Kards cut the gap to 36-30 after three quarters.

Emma Beck poured in 36 for Kenai, while Malerie Nunn and Ella Yragui had four, Grace Kahn had two, and Chloe Goldsby and Sierra Hershberger had one apiece.

For the Braves, Brooke Markoff had 15, Carliese O’Brien had seven, Kathy Jones, Bessie Williams and Cadence Dull had six, Bethany Akaran had four and Tahira Akaran and Shaedyn Barr had two.

The Mt. Edgecumbe boys notched a 61-52 victory over Kenai. The Kardinals are now 10-8.

Jakob Kvasnikoff had 23 for the Kards, while Wade James had 11, Daniel McRorie had six, Roc Riggle had four, Carnell Gump had three and Bridger Beck had two.

For Mt. Edgecumbe, Ranen Wassillie had 14, Miles Bourtukafsky had 13, Donovan Stephan had 11, Jacob Friske had 10, Kalso Hermann had nine and Tyrell Crumer had four.
