Chugiak hockey topples Kenai Central

The Division I Chugiak hockey team defeated Division II Kenai Central 9-0 on Thursday at the Kenai Multi-Purpose Facility in nonconference action.

Daegn Love made 20 saves to record the shutout for Chugiak as the Kardinals fell to 2-5-0 overall.

The Mustangs scored two goals in the first period, two goals in the second period and five in the final period.

Hunter Merrick scored four goals to lead the Mustangs, while Michael Maxey had a pair of tallies. Also scoring for Chugiak were Ajay Johnson and Fischer Sims.

For Kenai, Evyn Witt and Levi Crawford combined for 21 saves.

The Kardinals now jump into Railbelt Conference play by taking on Kodiak at 7 p.m. today and noon Saturday at the Kenai Multi-Purpose Facility.
