Arneson wins Spartan Race

Lars Arneson, a 2009 graduate of Cook Inlet Academy now living in Anchorage, won the “Beast” event in the Spartan Race series in Blue Mountain, Ontario, Canada, on Oct. 22.

Spartan Races are famous for their obstacles, and this course had 30 of them while gaining and losing 5,000 feet over the course of 13 miles. Arneson finished in 2 hours, 7 minutes and 30 seconds. Tyler Veerman of Colorado was the runner-up at 2:08:28.

Arneson continues to be on a racing roll. In late September, he won the Kenai River Marathon in an event record 2:35:33. Arneson also beat a 2012 record to win the Matanuska Peak Challenge in early August. He did that on the way to winning his third-straight Alaska Mountain Runners Grand Prix award for overall excellence in Alaska mountain races.
