Area graduates compete in National Rollerski Biathlon Championships

Three central Kenai Peninsula graduates competed in the U.S. Biathlon Association National Rollerski Biathlon Championships on Aug. 5 and 6 in Jericho, Vermont.

Travis Cooper and Jordan Theisen are both 2015 graduates of Kenai Central High School and compete for National Guard Biathlon. Justin Hansen is a 2022 graduate of River City Academy and competes for Kenai Biathlon.

On Saturday, Aug. 5, Cooper finished fifth in the men’s sprint with a time of 27 minutes, 6.7 seconds, with the victory going to Paul Schommer at 25:25.3.

Cooper had one miss in five shots in prone shooting and two misses in five shots standing. Schommer shot cleanly at prone and had one miss standing.

Theisen was 14th in the men’s race at 29:22.5. He had three misses at prone and one miss standing.

In the junior men sprint race, Hansen finished 13th at 1:05:58.9. He had four misses at prone and four misses at standing.

On Sunday, Aug. 6, Cooper finished seventh in the mass start with a time of 41:23.3, with Schommer winning at 39:40.9. At the four shooting stations, Cooper had a total of six misses, while Schommer had a total of five misses.

Theisen finished 14th at 43:27.2 with nine misses.

Hansen competed in the junior men pursuit race but was listed in the results as not finishing.
