The University of Alaska Southeast announced last week that it will offer in-state tuition to all undergraduate students starting fall 2026.
“For students who dream of a once-in-a-lifetime adventure in Alaska, this is an unparalleled opportunity,” said Chancellor Aparna Palmer in an Oct. 9 press release. “We are thrilled to invite students from all over the country to bring their unique backgrounds to UAS and add to the remarkable communities we have in Southeast Alaska.”
UAS said the Alaska Unlocked initiative aims to make the school “more financially accessible to students who currently don’t live in the state.”
The university’s current estimated cost of attendance for an Alaska resident living on campus is $31,262 yearly, compared with the non-resident rate of $45,734. The new initiative will slice nearly $15,000 off the cost of tuition for undergrad students coming from out-of-state.
In-state tuition rates will apply to all undergraduate students pursuing a bachelor’s, associate’s, certificate or technical degree, and apply to in-person and online course-takers.
Applications for the fall 2026 semester are currently open.
