With a handfull of community supporters watching, the Soldotna City Council voted to allocate $50,000 of the city budget toward keeping the Skyview pool open.

Residents and council members will have the opportunity at an upcoming council meeting to discuss the funds in depth.

Council member Linda Murphy iterated to the audience that the money will potentially go to the Kenai Peninsula Borough School District’s annual budget to help maintain the management costs, but it is not guaranteed. The council is waiting to hear whether the Kenai Peninsula Borough School District or the Kenai Peninsula Borough will designate any funding in their own budgets, before it is put to a vote.

The council decided to hold a joint worksession before their next meeting at 4:30 p.m., April 23, for a public discussion on how to address the Birch Ridge Golf Course, which the last council meeting, had supporters spilling out the doors asking the city to reconsider purchasing the property. Mayor Nels Anderson predicts another large turnout.
