Erin Thompson is expanding her leadership as she takes on editorial oversight of the Juneau Empire in addition to her existing role guiding coverage at the Kenai Peninsula Clarion and Homer News.
Erin moved to Alaska nearly eight years ago to cover public safety for the Clarion, and has since become a trusted editorial leader in the region, known for her thoughtful approach to local journalism and her commitment to public service reporting. In her role, she works closely with reporters to shape original, community-grounded stories that spark civic conversations and reflect the voices of Alaska’s diverse communities.
A graduate of Sarah Lawrence College, Erin brings a broad range of experience to her work, having reported in Guam, New York and Nebraska before making her home in Alaska. Her expanded role is part of Carpenter Media Group’s ongoing commitment to strengthening local journalism across Southeast Alaska.
Erin will remain based on the Kenai Peninsula while working collaboratively with the newsroom team in Juneau to continue the Empire’s long tradition of watchdog reporting and community connection.
The Juneau Empire was first founded in November of 1912, now in its 112th year of chronicling community in the region.
