The Performing Arts Society will on Saturday host a performance by flutist Tomoka Raften and classical guitarist Armin Abdihodžic at the Christ Lutheran Church in Soldotna. The “evening of mastery and elegance” is set to begin at 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 1.
Both Raften and Abdihodžic have roots on the Kenai Peninsula, and event information provided by the society says they’ll be reuniting to perform together for the first time in five years. The two have previously performed both together and separately in local concerts and both have been involved in local music education. Abdihodžic currently serves as an associate professor of guitar at the University of Alaska Anchorage.
According to event information from the society, the two will play a series of works by Johann Sebastian Bach, Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco, Toru Takemitsu, Maurice Ravel, Gabriel Fauré and Jacques Ibert.
“This program invites listeners to experience the versatility and expressive range of the classical guitar and flute duo, weaving through different styles and eras in an evening of refined musical exploration,” the information reads.
The performance starts at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, at the church. Tickets cost $20 for adults and $10 for students. They can be purchased at the door or at River City Books, Northcountry Fair, Country Liquor, Already Read Books and Curtain Call.
