JUNEAU, Alaska (AP) — City leaders in Juneau are moving ahead with plans to demolish a downtown apartment complex ravaged by a fire three years ago.

The City and Borough of Juneau Assembly declined a request to delay the demolition by 30 days to allow a Seattle-based company time to flesh out plans to restore the building.

The Juneau Empire reports (http://bit.ly/1GXhu8Y ) that PPP LLC announced late last month that it had reached a deal to buy the complex, which includes three connected buildings.

The complex caught fire again in March, prompting the assembly to allocate $1.8 million to demolish it.

At a meeting this week, the assembly decided to stick with its current plan after seven people, most of them downtown business owners, testified in favor of demolishing the apartments.
