Ostrander qualifies for Olympic trials in steeplechase

Allie Ostrander, a 2015 Kenai Central graduate now based in Seattle, qualified for the Olympic trials in the 3,000-meter steeplechase by hitting the qualifying standard at the Payton Jordan Invitational in Stanford on Friday.

The qualifying standard is 9 minutes, 41 seconds. Ostrander ran 9:37.65 to finish fourth in the race, but more importantly earn the right to compete at the trials from June 21 to 30 in Eugene, Oregon.

Ostrander is a three-time NCAA Division I champion in the steeplechase. This will be the third Olympic trials for Ostrander, as she seeks her first berth in the Olympics.

In 2016, she finished eighth in the trials at 5,000 meters. In 2021, she finished eighth in the steeplechase.

Tuesday, Ostrander was inducted into the Alaska Sports Hall of Fame.
