Thursday: Oilers bats break out as team snaps 5-game skid

The Peninsula Oilers defeated the Michigan Monarchs 9-4 on Thursday in nonconference play at Coral Seymour Memorial Park in Kenai.

The Oilers jumped to a 9-0 lead on the way to snapping a five-game losing streak. Peninsula finishes the series against the Monarchs on Friday at 6 p.m.

Ty Correa got the win for the Oilers, going seven scoreless innings on two hits. He walked four and struck out six.

Harrison Metz, a Legion Twins and Homer High product, worked the last two innings and gave up four runs.

Leighton Helfrick led the Oilers on offense, going 3 for 4 with three RBIs and three runs.
