Kasilof’s VanMeter takes 6th in Iron Dog

Tyler Aklestad of Palmer and Tyson Johnson of Eagle River won the Iron Dog on Saturday in Fairbanks.

Riding Ski-Doos, the pair finished at 12:19 p.m., with runners-up Todd Minnick and Nick Olstad arriving about 35 minutes behind to complete the 2,000-mile race, which started in Big Lake and went to Nome before heading to Fairbanks.

Dusty VanMeter of Kasilof and Chad Gueco of Wasilla finished sixth, about 4 hours, 20 minutes, behind the winners.
