JD and Nicole Hall of Nikiski announce the birth of their son, Russell James Hall, at 8:54 a.m. Feb. 17, 2015. He weighed 8 pounds, 13 ounces and measured 21 inches. He joins a sibling, Hudson. His grandparents are Mary and Smokey LeFebvre, and Tina and David Hall.

Major General Patrick A. Murphy, The Adjutant General for the State of New York, announces the promotion of members of the New York Army National Guard in recognition of their capability for additional responsibility and leadership.

Michael Vasquez from Kenai, serving with the Company F (Forward Support Company Infantry), 427th Brigade Support Battalion is promoted to the rank of Specialist. Army National Guard promotions are based on overall performance, attitude, leadership ability, and development potential. These promotions additionally recognize the best qualified Soldiers and attract and retain the highest caliber Citizen Soldiers for a career in the New York Army National Guard.

Briana VinZant of Soldotna has been named to the Dean’s List for the Fall 2014 semester at the University of Jamestown in Jamestown, North Dakota.

The University of Alaska Fairbanks has announced the students named to the deans’ and chancellor’s lists for the fall 2014 semester. The lists recognize students’ outstanding academic achievements.

Students receiving a 3.9 grade point average or higher are placed on the chancellor’s list, while those receiving a grade point average of between 3.5 and 3.89 are named to the deans’ list.

Events, wedding, engagement and birth submissions may not be older than six months. Wedding anniversary announcements are printed in five-year increments beginning with the 20th.

The Community page is a way to highlight activities and events that happen with a photo. If your group or organization has a photo of an event to share, submit the photo and the following information for print: Who took the photo, who’s in it, when and where it was taken, a brief description of what’s happening, and a name and phone number in case we have questions.
