Monopoly winner uses dollars and sense

From the 52 children who came to the Soldotna Sports Centers on Saturday to participate in this year’s Winter Games Monopoly tournament, Briley Morton emerged as the champion. In the final game of the two-round tournament, Morton defeated seven opponents.

Referee Joshuah Rutten said that he was surprised to see Morton win in spite of not owning Boardwalk or Parkplace.

“The person who had Boardwalk had a house on it, and I was surprised that they came in second,” Rutten said. “But Briley just had better money management, from what it looked like.”

Rutten attributed Morton’s win to sound decision-making.

“Her money-flow — making sure not to overspend or underspend her money — really helped her out,” Rutten said.

Each of the finalists received a board game of their choosing. Morton’s grand prize consisted of a tournament Monopoly board, popcorn, candy, and $50 of real money.
