It was a chilly morning at the Lookout Mountain cross-country ski trails on Ohlson Mountain just outside of Homer on Thursday, Jan. 30, for the Homer’s Got Snow 5K classic race.

The impromptu meet was scheduled to replace the Kenai Klassic, which was held due to low snow levels on the central Kenai Peninsula. The event was boroughwide, with Grace Christian School from Anchorage also making the trip down to compete. Skiers raced 5 kilometers in classic technique.

Homer’s Jody Goodrich and Johannes Bynagle secured solid first- and second-place wins for the varsity boys, followed in third by Kenai Central’s Chase Laker. Jody Goodrich’s first-place win was also the fastest run of the day, at 16 minutes, 36 seconds.

For the varsity girls, Kenai’s Isla Crouse skated into a first-place finish at 21:53, followed by Cassidy Carroll of Homer and LeAnne Gordon of Soldotna.
