NAHL: Powell makes All-Rookie team, Luke Anderson commits

Soldotna’s Trent Powell, 19, of Soldotna was named to the North American Hockey League All-Rookie Team in postseason awards announced Thursday.

Powell, who is committed to Division I Long Island University, played his first season in the NAHL with the Anchorage Wolverines.

The 5-foot-9, 180-pound defenseman played in 58 games and had 14 goals and 25 assists. He tied for 10th in the league in points among defensemen and second in goals among defensemen.

Kenai River’s Luke Anderson commits to Bethel

Kenai River Brown Bears defenseman Luke Anderson announced Friday that he will be playing hockey at Division III Bethel University in St. Paul, Minnesota.

Anderson, a 6-0, 190-pound defenseman from St. Cloud, Minnesota, played two full seasons for the Brown Bears.

In 2021-22, he played in 51 games and had four assists. In 2022-23, he played in 57 games and had a goal and 20 assists.

Anderson broke into the NAHL in 2019-20, playing two games for the Springfield (Illinois) Jr. Blues. In 2020-21, he played 21 games for the Minnesota Wilderness.
