Soldotna baseball tops Kodiak

The Soldotna baseball team defeated Kodiak 10-5 on Thursday at the Fourth Annual Buddy Dale Invitational at Wasilla High School.

The Stars are now 1-1 at the tournament and 1-1 overall. The Stars continue play at the tournament today by facing Wasilla at 6:30 p.m.

The Bears led 3-0 after 2 1-2 innings, but the Stars tied it in the bottom of the third. Kodiak then led 5-3 after 4 1-2 innings, but the Stars scored seven in the bottom of the fifth.

Derrick Jones pitched 4 2-3 innings for the Stars, giving up five runs — two earned — on two hits while walking seven and striking out eight. Andrew Pieh finished with a hitless and scoreless 1 1-3 innings, striking out two.

Brett Hostetler was 2 for 3 for the Stars, while Levi Mickelson had two runs and Tucker Blough had two RBIs.
