Red, white and blue all day

Hundreds of people gathered in downtown Kenai on Monday to participate in the town’s Fourth of July activities.
From Fidalgo Avenue through town and back up Main Street Road, sidewalks and bike lanes were filled with kids trying to bag as many treats as possible during the annual Kenai 4th of July Parade, many folks donning red, white and blue. After the last float finished the route many flocked to the Kenai green strip to peruse various vendors and food trucks.
Kara Kellerby was at the green strip Monday afternoon after watching the parade, which the family usually does every year. She and her son Karter, 7, were trying their luck at a foam bow-and-arrow booth.
She said her son’s favorite part of the parade was the candy, unsurprisingly enough.
Cassy Williams said the parade was “a lot of fun” this year. Her kids’ favorite aspect of the parade was of course the candy, but also the fire trucks and sirens. She said she planned to stay at the green strip so her kids could take advantage of all the games.
The Kenai Chamber of Commerce and Visitor Center sponsored Monday’s parade and festivities.
