Jacoby takes bronze at World Cup

Seward senior Lydia Jacoby returned to international competition this weekend for the first time since winning a gold medal in the 100-meter breaststroke and a silver medal in the 400 medley relay at the Summer Olympics.

Jacoby won a bronze medal in the 100-meter breaststroke Saturday at the 2021 FINA World Cup in Berlin, Germany.

The race was different than the Olympic 100-meter breaststroke. The Olympics uses a pool that is 50 meters long, while the race in Germany was in a 25-meter pool.

Anastasia Gorbenko of Israel won at 1 minute, 4.44 seconds, while Jacoby came in at 1:05.20.

Friday, Jacoby finished fifth in the 200-meter breaststroke. Kristyna Horska of Czechoslovakia won at 2:21.07, while Jacoby finished at 2:24.99.
