CIA soccer opens tourney with win

The Cook Inlet Academy coed soccer team opened up play in the Tri-Valley Kickoff Tournament in Healy with a 3-0 victory over Our Lady of the Valley, a team from Wasilla.
The Eagles improved to 3-0-1 against Our Lady of the Valley this season and 6-0-1 in Borealis Conference play.
CIA struck first in the eighth minute, when Emily Lamb threw the ball in to Austin Henderson, and Henderson passed to Noah Castenholz. Castenholz buried a shot from 18 yards.
Just after halftime, the Academy went up 2-0 when Castenholz delivered a corner kick to Abraham Henderson. In the 67th minute, Tatum Rozak crossed to Castenholz for a goal.
CIA coach Kenny Leaf said center backs Britt Hall and Eddie Erickson were solid, while keeper Gavin Liles had a couple of quality saves to keep the clean sheet.
Today, CIA plays undefeated Su-Valley at 11 a.m. and Nenana at 3 p.m. The games will determine the participants in the tournament championship.
