Soldotna girls stay perfect

The host Soldotna girls basketball team moved to 7-0 by defeating Homer 41-15 on Saturday. The Mariners fall to 3-3.
SoHi coach Kyle McFall said in a text message his team was able to weather some poor shooting. SoHi missed 19 straight shots from the end of the second quarter to the beginning of the fourth quarter.
“Homer did a good job of staying in front of us with their zone and making us run offense,” McFall wrote. “They were also very patient in their Flex offense which made us play long possessions on defense and prevented from really making the pace of play we want.”
McFall said the Stars didn’t control the pace of the game until six minutes were left.
Josie Sheridan and Morgan Bouschor each had nine points to lead the Stars, while Laura Inama had eight for the Mariners.
Homer boys 52, Soldotna 45
The visiting Mariners improved to 5-1 by topping the Stars for the second time this season. SoHi falls to 1-5.
Homer grabbed a 14-5 lead after the first quarter and then withstood multiple Soldotna runs throughout the game.
Clayton Beachy paced the Mariners with 17 points, while Josiah Raymond had 15 and Parker Lowney had eight.
For the Stars, Maleda Denbrock had 10 points while Daniel McRorie and Ethan Sewell each had nine.
Seward girls 33, Kenai 29
The host Seahawks got their first victory of the year by avenging an earlier loss to the Kardinals. That loss came on Jan. 26 by an identical 33-29 score.
Seward is 1-5, while Kenai is 3-4.
Shelley Sieminski had 12 to lead the Seahawks, while Anevay Ambrosiani added eight. Emma Beck led the way for Kenai with 16.
Seward boys 53, Kenai 47
The host Seahawks rebounded from a 59-32 loss to Soldotna on Thursday in a big way by handing the Kards their first loss of the season.
Seward evens its record at 3-3 and avenges a 59-57 loss to Kenai on Jan. 26. The Kards are 6-1.
Tommy Cronin had 16 to lead the Seahawks, while Sam Koster had 14 and Trey Ingalls had 13.
For the Kards, Lucas Tunseth and Jordan Kvasnikoff had 12 apiece while Maison Dunham added 10.
