Brown Bears open season with victory

The Kenai River Brown Bears started the 2020-21 season with a 3-0 victory at the Chippewa (Wisconsin) Steel on Friday in Wisconsin.

Luke Pavicich made all 46 saves for the shutout in his debut for the Brown Bears.

After a scoreless first period, Laudon Poellinger scored the first goal of the season 5 minutes, 45 seconds, into the second period on assists from Drew Jeffers and Adam Szubert.

The game remained tight until Anchorage’s Max Helgeson scored with just 1:42 remaining in the third on assists from Theo Thrun and Jeffrey Lee. Less than 30 seconds later, David Vieten added the empty-net goal for the victory.

Kenai River plays Chippewa again Thursday at 4:10 p.m. AKST.
