Friday prep hoops: Nikiski girls avenge loss to ACS as Wik scores 27

The Nikiski girls basketball team rained 11 3-pointers, including seven from Emma Wik, in picking up a key, 64-59 Southcentral Conference win over host Anchorage Christian Schools on Friday.

The Bulldogs improved to 10-1 in the league by avenging a loss less than a week ago to the Lions, who are 10-1 in the league. Nikiski was able to tie ACS atop the league standings by defeating Redington on Saturday.

The Bulldogs grabbed a 45-38 lead after three quarters and held on for the win in the fourth quarter.

Wik had just two points in the first quarter and eight at the half, but then erupted for 19 in the second half to finish with 27. Bethany Carstens hit a pair of treys to finish with 20 points.

Destiny Reimers had 27 points to pace ACS.

ACS boys 67, Nikiski 44

The host Lions posted a 17-7 lead after one quarter en route to a Southcentral Conference win Friday.

Jace Kornstad had 18 points for Nikiski, while Cody Handley added 11.

Houston girls 44, Homer 15

Aspen Ruth enjoyed a big night during her final basketball game on her home floor.

The Houston senior scored a game-high 23 points to lead the Hawks over the Mariners in Southcentral Conference action.

Ruth shot 9 of 16 from the floor, and 2 of 3 from beyond the arc. She added four rebounds and three steals. Taylor Moore chipped in 11 points in the victory.

Houston boys 44, Homer 40

Houston senior Ben Bitler celebrated the school’s senior night with a double-double during a Southcentral Conference victory over the Mariners. Bitler finished with 16 points and 13 rebounds. Kolby Taylor added 11 points, seven assists and six rebounds.

Seward girls 43, Redington 32

Ashley Jackson had 13 points for the visiting Seahawks in the Southcentral Conference victory over the Huskies. Courtney Crockett had 22 points for Redington.

Seward boys 63, Redington 29

Hunter Kratz hit four 3-pointers to lead Seward over Redington on Friday night at Redington Jr./Sr. High.

Kratz scored a game-best 18 points in the victory. Rhett Seiverts added a dozen.

Brody Brooks led the Huskies with 10. Brian Amirault added nine.
