Friday: Soldotna, SoHi JV, Tri-Valley notch hockey victories in Homer

Tri-Valley defeated Homer 7-3 on Friday in the End of the Road Shootout at Kevin Bell Ice Arena in Homer.

Cordell Randall of the Viking Warriors collected the hat trick to drive the victory.

The Mariners struck first with 11:26 left in the first period when River Henry lit the lamp.

The Viking Warriors scored twice in the final five minutes of the first period to take the lead for good. Randall and Reid Williams had the tallies.

In the second period, Owen Jusczak and Randall had Tri-Valley up 4-1 by the time 9:04 showed on the clock. Zane Barth scored late in the period for Homer.

The Viking Warriors went up 5-2 early in the third period on a power-play goal by Mike Renshaw, who also had three assists. Austin Pitzman answered shortly after for Homer, but Quincy Hjorth and Randall closed the period with goals for Tri-Valley.

Elijah Graham had 13 saves for the Viking Warriors, while Reace Brothers stopped 16 for the Mariners.

Soldotna 10, Bartlett 2

The Stars, a Division II school, rolled past the Division I Bears behind five goals from Daniel Heath.

Heath scored two goals in the first five minutes of the game, one short-handed, to get the Stars off on the right foot.

Dylan Beals scored on the power play for Bartlett, but Heath completed a first-quarter hat trick on the power play for a 3-1 lead after the first.

The Stars put the game out of reach in the second period by scoring five goals and blanking the Golden Bears.

In the second, Draiden Mullican had a power-play tally, while Riley Cronin, Noah Crabtree, Sylas Hughes and Peyton Williams also scored.

Heath had a pair of short-handed goals in the third period, while Beals scored again for Bartlett on the power play.

Brycen Clyde saved 18 on 19 shots through the first two periods for SoHi, while Fynley Holkko turned away 6 of 7 in third-period relief work.

Reece Morton had 26 saves for the Bears.

Soldotna JV 3, Kenai JV 2

The Stars JV nipped Kenai’s JV.

In the third period, Kenai’s Bridger Begich scored on an assist from Alex Martinez to level the game at 2.

With 3:10 left, Paul Wertanen had the game-winner for the Stars, assisted by Tucker Challans.

SoHi’s Caleb Mills had the lone goal of the first period, assisted by Billy Drath and Wyatt Alvord.

In the second period, Rylan Broyles gave the Stars a 2-0 lead with an unassisted goal. Kenai’s Ryder Gagnon, assisted by Isaac Potton, got the Kards within 2-1 on the power play before the end of the period.

Jordin Berzanske made nine saves on 10 shots for SoHi, while Fynley Holkko stopped 13 of 14.

For Kenai, Logan Mese stopped 9 of 10, Seanna Swanson stopped 6 of 7 and Michael Overway stopped 9 of 10.

The tournament wraps up Saturday, Nov. 23. Tri-Valley plays SoHi at 9 a.m., Bartlett plays Kenai at 11:30 a.m. and Soldotna’s JV plays Homer at 2 p.m.
