3-car accident backs up traffic for hours

Officials had to reroute highway traffic around the accident Tuesday morning.

A multiple-vehicle accident on the Kenai Spur Highway on Tuesday morning backed up traffic for approximately two hours outside of town, Kenai Police Lt. Ben Langham said.

According to Langham, at around 7:43 a.m. Tuesday the Kenai Police Department and Kenai Fire responded to an accident involving three vehicles near Gator Guns Inc. on the Kenai Spur Highway.

A 2010 Ford Edge heading westbound on the highway swerved over the centerline, side-swiped a yellow Dodge truck and then crashed head-on with a brown Chevrolet truck, Langham said.

The driver of the Ford Edge was transported to Central Peninsula Hospital with non-life threatening injuries, Langham said. The Chevy driver sustained injuries but it was not immediately clear if the person needed medical attention. Langham said the occupants of the yellow Dodge walked away from the accident uninjured.

Officials had to reroute highway traffic around the accident Tuesday morning.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation based on the state of the drivers and eyewitnesses on the scene, Langham said.
