Brent Roumagoux won the Legend feature race at the 2025 Willie Creech Legend Memorial Race on Saturday, Aug. 23, at Twin City Raceway in Kenai.

Creech died in November 2024. Kristen Bornowski, secretary of the Kenai Peninsula Racing Lions – Circle Track Division – said Creech raced Legend cars throughout the state.

Creech also founded Vulcan Towing and Recovery in 1991 before passing the business to his son, Justin, in 2004.

Bornowski said Justin was a driving force in the Creech Memorial Race.

“They’re just honoring his memory,” Bornowski said. “He loved the races, and he loved Legend cars.”

Vulcan Towing, Creech Motorsports, Elite Towing and Recovery, Soldotna Ammo Supply and Alaska #1 Door Service all came together to provide a $10,000 pot for the race.

Bornowski said the first through 15th drivers were paid out. The winner got $3,200, plus the payout from the track. That was expected to be about $300.

There were 22 Legend cars out on the track for the 30-lap feature race. Bryan Barber had the early lead, with Roumagoux in close pursuit.

With 12 laps to go, the two hit lap traffic, and Roumagoux was able to take the lead from Barber.

He held that lead until the race was called due to darkness with four laps left.

“He’s a local that’s been racing here forever, so this is a huge win for him,” Bornowski said of Roumagoux.

She said the Creech Memorial Race was moved to Twin City Raceway a few weeks ago. The short notice meant the huge pot drew only racers from in Alaska, but Bornowski said Twin City Raceway would like to host the event again and draw racers from Outside.

Also, Jake Savely won the A Stock feature, Clay Petersen won the Late Model and Modified feature, and Jared Hutchings won the Mini Stock feature.

Twin City Raceway will close its season Sept. 12 and 13 with the Under the Lights Night Races. Both days, time trials start at 3 p.m., while racing is at 5 p.m.

Bornowski said about 100 cars are expected to race in eight classes.
