Where’s Our Winter?

By Bill Lowe, Sterling

Is winter not here yet or did it already come and pass?

I know it’s too soon to be thinking ‘bout mowing my grass,

but I believe I just saw Jimmy Buffet walk by

holding a lime and a long-stem frosted glass?

According to my measuring tape and I know it don’t lie;

we got about as much snow this winter as we did last July.

You may think I’m exaggerating but I’m not,

I keep track, ‘cuz I’m “the pusher guy.”

I may have been pulling your leg about mowing the lawn,

but if the river weren’t iced over, I swear I’d be up before dawn

catching some of those Kings, Cohoes and Sockeyes

heading up the Kenai to spawn.

Please forgive me; I’m not trying to sound intentionally mean,

but let the northeast have the most snow they’ve ever seen;

the only place I want to be close to a Blizzard

is inside the Soldotna Dairy Queen.
