Assembly approves money for school projects

The Kenai Peninsula Borough Assembly appropriated funds for various school-related projects at its Tuesday meeting in Soldotna.
Three ordinances unanimously passed appropriating a total of more than $1.7 million to the projects.
The assembly appropriated $1.37 million in the borough’s school revenue capital projects fund for safety and security improvements in Kenai Peninsula Borough School District facilities. Projects include intercom systems, double lock-sets for classroom and office doors, buzz-in doors and fire alarms.
Funding for the purchase of school maintenance equipment totaling $52,810 was approved. Equipment receiving money include a four-wheel drive compact utility tractor, two 3-point mounted broadcast spreaders, a vehicle diagnostic system and an aerial work platform.
The assembly appropriated $135,000 from the borough general fund to the school capital project fund for the Soldotna High School turf track and field project. It also redirected $165,000 from other projects in the school capital project fund for the SoHi turf.
The next assembly meeting is at 6 p.m. on May 20 in Soldotna.
