The host Kenai Central volleyball team notched its first victory of the season Friday, sweeping nonconference foe Anchorage Christian Schools in nonconference action.

The Kardinals won by scores of 25-21, 27-25 and 25-12.

Soldotna wins Silver Bracket at Dimond-Service

The Soldotna volleyball team won the Silver Bracket on Saturday at the Dimond-Service Tournament.

The Stars beat Colony 25-17 and 25-13, beat Service 13-25, 25-18 and 15-5, and beat Wasilla 25-19, 20-25 and 15-4 for the title.

Nikiski won the consolation prize in that same bracket. The Bulldogs lost to Wasilla 25-20, 25-19 before beating Colony 25-23, 25-17 and beating Kodiak 25-20, 25-18.

Homer took the consolation prize in the Bronze Bracket, losing to Grace 27-25, 18-25 and 15-12 before topping Ketchikan 25-20, 25-13.

In Friday’s pool play, Soldotna was third in Pool B at 4-4, Homer was last in Pool C at 0-8 and Nikiski was third in Pool C at 4-4.

Seward 3, ACS 0

The visiting Seahawks notched a 25-17, 25-19 and 25-8 victory over Anchorage Christian Schools on Friday in Southcentral Conference action.

The Seahawks improved to 8-3 in the conference and 9-4 overall.

Seward coach Jodi Kurtz said her squad was led by great hitting from Riley Von Borstel, Maille Moriarity and Coral Petrosius, and great serving from Ashley Jackson.
