Ty Fenton had three goals in the first half to lead host Soldotna to a 6-1, NLC victory Friday against Houston.

Soldotna moved to 2-1-1 overall and in the league with the triumph.

Fenton struck in the first minute of the game, but the Hawks came back to tie in about the 20th minute. However, two more Fenton goals before the end of the half amounted to a 3-1 halftime lead.

Daniel McElroy, Dylan Kuntz and Ben Godfrey sealed the game in the second half with tallies.

“It was good to finally finish on some goals,” Soldotna coach Jeff Siemers said. “We’re still looking to build more creativity and scoring chances, but it was good to finish on them today.”

Soldotna goalie Kayne North was out with an injury, but Siemers said backup Thomas Flores was up to the task.

“He did fine back there,” Siemers said.

Soldotna girls 8, Houston 0

The host Stars moved to 4-0 overall and in conference with a win over the Hawks on Friday.

Soldotna coach Jimmy Love said his starters got to play half the game, getting rest for games Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

“The goal going into this was to get the team jelling,” Love said. “I would have liked to see the starters play a good portion of the first half, but it was 60-plus degrees with little wind, so I subbed more in the first half than I wanted to.”

Alyssa Wolfe started the scoring three minutes in on an assist from Kylee Wolfe. Just three minutes later, Olivia Conradi gave SoHi a two-goal lead.

Taryn McCubbins scored in the 13th minute, while Lena Strothmann, on an assist from Makenna Rosin, scored with one minute left in the half.

Love also started with his starters in the second half. In the first 18 minutes of the half, Alyssa Wolfe scored with help from Julie Litchfield and Conradi, Conradi scored with help from Litchfield and Kelci Benson, and McCubbins headed in a Litchfield corner kick.

With 11 minutes left, Reagan Schoessler scored on an assist from Elizabeth Cho.

Katelynn Kerkvliet and Kylee Wolfe combined for the shutout, with Kerkvliet playing about 60 minutes.

Love was generally pleased with his team, but noted there is always room for improvement.

“Our shooting was definitely off tonight,” he said. “We had a lot of shots well wide. The ones that were good shots on frame were right at the keeper.”

Colony girls 8, Skyview 1

The visiting Knights recovered from a magical strike from the Panthers early in the game for an NLC win.

Skyview, which hosts Kenai at 4 p.m. Monday, fell to 0-3 with the loss.

Just three minutes in, Skyview’s Ciarra Mahan dribbled the length of the field for a goal.

“She hit the crossbar another time,” Skyview coach David Carpenter said. “She probably put about six shots on goal.”

But Carpenter said his team still doesn’t have it figured out on defense. He said say Mandee Lawson made some nice saves in net.

Colony boys 4, Skyview 0

The visiting Knights impressed in a NLC victory Saturday.

“As everybody already knows, Colony is a really good team,” Skyview coach Jake Eveland said. “They kind of pulled off the dogs in the second half.

“The kids still played hard and are a much improved team.”

Eveland said Bailey Jones did well in goal, saving 15 really good shots. He said Austin Craig and Ryan Winter also did well on defense.

Skyview hosts Kenai on Monday at 6 p.m.

Homer, Colony split

The Homer girls notched a victory over the visiting Knights on Friday, while the Homer boys fell 3-0 in Northern Lights Conference play. A score was not available from the girls game.
