Wednesday baseball: Soldotna defeats Homer

The Soldotna baseball team defeated Homer 8-5 on Wednesday at the Soldotna Little League fields in Northern Lights Conference play.

The Stars move to 7-2 in the league and 9-5 overall, while the Mariners fall to 1-7 and 1-8.

Soldotna grabbed a 6-1 lead after two innings, but after that the Mariners hung tough.

Brendon Theel got the win for the Stars, going five innings and giving up four runs — three earned — on eight hits while walking one and striking out two.

Levi Mickelson gave up a run and a hit in 1 1-3 innings, while Derrick Jones pitched a perfect 2-3 of an inning.

Jones was 2 for 4 with two runs at the plate, while Mickelson had two runs and Sage Cruz had three RBIs.

Mylan Johnson gave up seven runs — six earned — on six hits for Homer while walking five and striking out two. Henry Wedvick then gave up a run and a hit in two innings, striking out five.

Johnson scored twice for the Mariners, while Clyde Clemons was 2 for 3 and CJ Burns was 3 for 3 with two runs.
