Wasilla netters take Shayna Pritchard Memorial

The Wasilla volleyball team won the Shayna Pritchard Memorial Volleyball Tournament on Friday and Saturday at Nikiski.

The brackets were set up by pool play Friday. Kenai Central was tops in Pool 1, while Eagle River was No. 2 and Wasilla JV was No. 3.

In Pool 2, Wasilla was first, Nikiski was second and Barrow was third.

In Saturday play, Nikiski started with a victory over Wasilla JV and Eagle River topped Barrow as both advanced to the semifinals.

In the semifinals, Kenai topped Nikiski and Wasilla defeated Eagle River.

Wasilla would beat Kenai for the title, Eagle River topped Nikiski for third place, and Wasilla JV topped Barrow for fifth place.

Nikiski setter Rachel Thompson was named the MVP of the tournament, while Nikiski’s Laura Hufford also made the all-tournament team.

For Kenai, Abby Beck and Kiana Harding made the all-tournament team, while Payton Mobley, Amber Sizemore, Andraia Bella and Denisha Christiansen were all tabbed for the Warriors.

Also on the all-tournament team were Ariana Salamat of Barrow and Kara Viotto of Eagle River.
