Twins make state tournament

The American Legion Post 20 Twins are in the state tournament.

The Twins won their final three league games of the season to finish at 9-7 and earn the No. 7 seed in the eight-team state tournament, which begins Thursday at Mulcahy Stadium in Anchorage.

At the state tournament, teams are broken into two divisions — the Denali and Alyeska divisions. The tournament starts with round-robin play in the division, then the top two out of each division qualify for Monday’s semifinals.

The Twins are in the Alyeska division with No. 2 Chugiak, No. 3 South and No. 6 Bartlett. The Denali division features No. 1 Eagle River, No. 4 Dimond, No. 5 Service and No. 8 Palmer.

Post 20 begins the tournament Thursday with a 1 p.m. game against South. The Twins then get Friday off before playing Chugiak on Saturday at 4 p.m. and Bartlett on Sunday at 2 p.m.

The Twins won state titles in 1991, 1995, 2012 and 2016.
