Tourneys kick off prep hoops season

The Kenai girls, Redington boys, Juneau-Douglas girls and Nikiski boys opened their seasons with victories Thursday at the Craig Jung Kenai River Challenge at Kenai Central High School.

The Kenai girls got a 43-38 victory over Redington.

For the Kardinals, Emma Beck poured in 20 points. Erin Koziczkowski added eight points, while Logan Satathite had seven and Riley Sparks, Shania McCanna, Emilee Wilson and Amber Nash each added two points.

For Redington, Lexi Seymore had 25 while Destiny Simmons had eight, Adilyn Pitcher had two, Andi Robson had two and Delaney Reavis had a point.

The Redington boys notched a 55-31 victory over the Kardinals.

Logan Seymore paced the Huskies with 13 points, while Wayde Bowman had 12 and Bryce Murdock added 11. Also for Redington, Doyle Bond had eight, Trevor Bowman had seven and Curt Standefer had four.

For the Kardinals, Caleb Litke had nine, Bridger Beck had eight, Wade James had five, Samuel Baisden had three, and Ky Calvert, Eli McCubbins and Joseph Hamilton each had two.

The Juneau-Douglas girls defeated Seward 62-17.

Trinity Jackson and Skylar Tuckwood each had 21 for the Crimson Bears, while Mila Hargrave had six, Rebekah Grube had five, Ashley Laudert had three and Kiyara Miller, Mackenzie Nichols and Gabbie George Frank each had two.

For Seward, Shelby Sieminski had six, Lena Jagielski and Renee Elhard each had four, and Hailey Ingalls had three.

The Nikiski boys notched a 39-35 victory over Seward. For the Bulldogs, Brady Bostic had 13, while Isaiah Daniels had 12. Dillon Hanson added six, while Charlie Chamberlain had four and Braeden Porter and Seth Payne had two apiece.

For Seward, Tommy Cronin had 14, while Ozzy Deel had 11, Nick Ambrosiani had four, Bergen Davis had three, Kupono Albino had two and Ben Ambrosiani had one.

Today at the Craig Jung Kenai River Challenge, the Redington boys play Seward at 3 p.m., the Redington girls play Seward at 4:30 p.m., the Kenai girls play Juneau-Douglas at 7:30 p.m. and the Kenai boys play Nikiski at 6 p.m.

Saturday, the Juneau girls play Redington at 11 a.m., the Nikiski boys play Redington at 12:30 p.m., the Kenai girls play Seward at 2 p.m. and the Kenai boys play Seward at 3:30 p.m.

CIA Classic

The Cook Inlet Academy girls, the CIA boys, the Soldotna junior varsity girls and SoHi JV boys opened their seasons with victories Thursday at Cook Inlet Academy.

The CIA girls topped the Kenai Central junior varsity 48-21, with the Eagles leading 36-4 at halftime.

Tatum Rozak had 26 points for the Eagles, with all but two coming in the first half. Hope Hillyer added 20 points for the Eagles, while Rebekah Dillingham pitched in two points.

The Kardinals had a balanced attack, with Savanah Wilson leading the way with five points. Sarah Baisden and Sierra Hershberger each had three points, while Madison Malone, Avia Miller, Tait Cooper, Myclea Phillips and Grace Kahn had two points.

The Eagles boys notched a 52-46 victory over Kenai’s JV.

For the Eagles, Ethan Boyd had 29 points, while James Boyd had nine, Ian McGarry had eight, Jeremiah Dillingham had four and Abraham Henderson pitched in two.

For Kenai JV, Armands Leksejs had 17 points, Zac Armstrong had 12 points, Caleb Litke had 10 points, Ben Harris had three points and Carnell Gump and Luke Armstrong each had two points.

The Soldotna girls JV defeated Ninilchik 38-18.

For the Stars, Kaitlyn McAnelly had 11 points, Tanner Inman had 10 points, Katelyn Morrison had eight points, Isabella Cruz had four points, Alex Lee had two points, Zayra Poage had two points and Morgan Lemm had a point.

For the Wolverines, Rian Ofstad had eight points, Zoia Fefelov had seven points and Autumn Calabrese had three points.

The Soldotna JV boys defeated Ninilchik 62-43.

Will Inman led the SoHi boys with 18 points, while Derrick Jones had 14 points. Also for the Stars, Blake Inger had eight, Andrew Pieh had seven, Zac Buckbee had six, Jace O’Reagan had four, Landon Hinz had three and Eli Corbett had two.

For the Wolverines, Cole Moore had 26 points while Rowan Mahoney had eight, Kade McCorison had four, Blake Lemons had three and Cody Blossom had two.

Today at the Classic, the Soldotna JV girls play CIA at 6 p.m., the SoHi JV boys play CIA at 8 p.m., the Kenai JV girls play Ninilchik at 2 p.m. and the Kenai JV boys play Ninilchik at 4 p.m.

Saturday at the Classic, the Sohi JV girls play Kenai JV at 3 p.m., the SoHi JV boys play Kenai JV at 5 p.m., the CIA girls play Ninilchik at 11 a.m. and the CIA boys play Ninilchik at 1 p.m.

Grace Christian Grizzly Classic

The Homer basketball teams split with Eagle River on Thursday in Anchorage.

The Homer girls defeated Eagle River 48-15.

Sydney Shelby had 15 points for the Mariners, while Kaylin Anderson added 13. Also for Homer, Lillie MacKuhn had six, Mel Morris had four, Sophie Ellison had four, Bethany Engebretsen had three and Hannah Stonorov had two.

Lydia Stone paced the Wolves with six points.

The Homer boys took a 66-54 loss to Eagle River. The Wolves were led by 22 points from Spencer Love, while Charles Wallace had 12 points and Jack Lerch added 11.

For Homer, Carter Tennison had 24, while Peyton Edens had 16 and Tim Hatfield added 11. Breaden Huffman had two, while Ryan Carroll had one.

Today, the Homer girls play Tikigaq at 3 p.m., while the Homer boys play Tikigaq at 4:45 p.m. Saturday, the Homer girls play Grace at 1 p.m., while the Homer boys play Grace at 2:45 p.m.
