Thunder Mountain girls claim Kenai River Challenge title

The Thunder Mountain girls wrapped up the Kenai River Challenge championship Saturday with a 40-33 victory over Kenai Central.

The Falcons used a big fourth quarter to post the Saturday victory and finish the tournament 3-0. Thunder Mountain also defeated Soldotna 60-32 on Friday. The Kards, who lost to Homer on Friday, finished the tournament 1-2.

Kenai led 26-22 heading into the final eight minutes, but the Falcons posted an 18-7 advantage for the win.

Alondra Echiverri and Ashley Young each had 11 points to lead the Falcons. For Kenai, Abby Beck had a game-high 14 points.

Seward girls 42, Homer 37

The Seahawks held off the Mariners for a Saturday victory. Both teams finished 2-1. Seward had defeated Lumen Christi 58-15 on Friday.

Kiana Clemens and Jasmine Perea each had 13 points for Seward, while Madison Akers had 15 for Homer.

Soldotna girls 74, Lumen Christi 14

The Stars finished with a big victory over the Archangels on Saturday. SoHi finished the tournament 1-2, while Lumen was 0-3.

Hayley Ramsell led the way with 26 points, and eight other Stars got into the scorebook. For Lumen, Cassandra Zitzow had six.

Soldotna’s Tania Boonstra took first place for the girls’ division, leading her team to victory at the meet. The Homer girls’ varsity team placed second overall.
