Thrills and spills at the Soldotna Rodeo

The Alaskan rodeo season officially kicked off on the peninsula Friday and Saturday evenings with the first rodeo event of the summer at the Soldotna Rodeo Grounds. Hosted by the Soldotna Equestrian Association, the 2017 schedule includes four three-day weekends, starting Friday and continuing June 23 to 25, July 21 to 23 and September 8 to 10.

This weekend’s events included ribbon roping, calf riding, team roping, chute dogging, barrel racing, double mugging, breakaway roping and the always-popular bull riding, which provided the crowd a thrill and spill a second.

The three-day event ends today with the rodeo kicking off at 2 p.m.
