Sunday: Oilers top Panners in extra innings

The Peninsula Oilers defeated the Alaska Goldpanners of Fairbanks 10-7 in 10 innings Sunday at Growden Memorial Park in Fairbanks in nonleague play.

The Oilers move to 6-4 overall and stay in Fairbanks for a 7 p.m. game tonight.

Alex Seifert finished 4 for 5 with three runs for the Oilers, while Seth DeWitt was 3 for 6 and had three RBIs and a home run.

Also, Darius Hill was 2 for 5, Jonathan Washam was 2 for 5 and Jared Huber was 2 for 4.

Yi-Hsin Huang picked up the win in relief for the Oilers, going 2 2-3 innings without allowing a run or a hit.

Cody Wood had worked the first six innings for the Oilers, giving up 10 hits and four runs — three earned.

The Goldpanners had a 4-0 lead after five, but the Oilers scored four in the sixth and two in the top of the seventh for a 6-4 lead.

The Panners came right back with three in the bottom of the seventh, but the Oilers scored once in the eighth to force extra innings.
