The race for the batting title in the Arizona Community College Athletic Conference came down to two players from the Kenai Peninsula.
Paul Steffensen of Kenai hit .404 to edge Jake Darrow of Soldotna, who batted .399. Both players came from the American Legion Post 20 Twins program, with Steffensen taking a state title in 2016 and Darrow wearing a state crown in 2012.
Steffensen, a freshman for Mesa Community College, had a league-high 84 hits in 54 games, with 10 triples that also led the league. His sterling initial campaign also featured a 26-game hitting streak.
Darrow, a sophomore, had 65 hits in 47 games, striking out just 14 times in 184 at-bats.
