Cory Davis of Soldotna and Ryan Simons of Alberta were in third place in the Iron Dog as the race checked into Nome on Tuesday.

Todd Minnick and Nick Olstad, both of Wasilla, got into Nome at 3:27 p.m Tuesday, while Davis, the six-time X Games medalist running his fifth Iron Dog, and Simons arrived at 4:04 p.m. In second were Tyler Aklestad of Palmer and Tyson Johnson of Eagle River, who arrived just 15 minutes after the leaders.

Kasilof’s Dusty VanMeter and Wasilla’s Chad Gueco were in seventh place after reaching Nome at 5:58 p.m. VanMeter has five championships and 14 Iron Dog finishes to his credit.

Nome is 1,045 miles into the 2,000-mile race. Fourteen teams have now scratched in trail conditions that saw temperatures drop to minus 40, leaving just 21 teams in the race.
