Soldotna wrestlers take 2nd at Colony Invitational

The Soldotna wrestling team finished second at the seven-team Colony Invitational on Saturday.

Colony won the tournament with 260 points, while Soldotna scored 152 to finish second. Kenai was fifth with 64 points.

The tournament featured brackets for most weight classes, and a round robin for those weight classes without a lot of wrestlers.

Austin Craig, Seth Hutchison and Ryan Winter paced the Stars by each taking first.

Craig, at 113, defeated Colony’s Sam Sisco 3-1 in the championship match. Hutchison, at 120, defeated Dimond’s Jack Divelbiss by a 10-0 major decision in the title match. Winter, at 132, pinned Wasilla’s Troy Newland in the title match.

Sage Hill and Hunter Bourgeois each finished second for the Stars. At 160, Bourgeois was pinned in the title match by Colony’s Robert Haan. At 195, Hill finished 3-1, losing only to Isaiah Christy of Colony.

Also for the Stars, James Gallagher was third at 182, Rodney French was third at 195, Taylor Macrae was third at 220, Eli Daman was fourth at 152 and Dalton Best was fourth at 285.

Ellery Steffensen led the Kardinals with a victory at 152. Steffensen pinned Colony’s Spencer Adams in the first-place match.

Dylan Carter finished second for the Kards at 170, finishing 3-1. His only loss was to Colony’s Dawson Nash.

Also for the Kards, Zach Koziczkowski was third at 285, finishing 3-2.
