The visiting Soldotna volleyball team defeated Homer 25-23, 25-12 and 25-20 on Tuesday in a nonconference match. The Stars moved to 3-0 overall in nontournament play with the victory.

“Homer played very well on their home floor,” Soldotna coach Sheila Kupferschmid said. “This was not our best match but it’s good to get a victory during homecoming week.”

Judah Aley had 14 kills, seven points and three aces for Soldotna, while Ella Stenga also had nine kills, six points and six digs from the outside. Cally Christianson had 32 assists and eight points, while Shaylynn Zener had 13 digs and three points, Aliann Schmidt had five kills and two blocks, Emily Pieh had five points, Ituau Tuisaula had 10 kills, seven points and four digs, and Abi Tuttle had six digs.

Kupferschmid said Pieh did a great job of filling in for Drewe Zeek, who was coming off a great performance in the Chugiak Invitational but could not play Tuesday due to illness.

The Stars are now off before beginning a three-game trip to the Matanuska-Susitna valleys on Sept. 15.
