Soldotna, Kenai, Homer notch NLC victories

The Soldotna baseball team defeated Houston 10-0 in five innings Friday in Northern Lights Conference action at the Soldotna Little League fields.

The Stars are on an eight-game winning streak that has their record at 8-1 in the league and 11-9-2 overall. SoHi has outscored opponents 91-13 during the streak.

Brenden Theel pitched five shutout innings for SoHi, allowing three hits and two walks while striking out 10.

Wyatt Gagnon led the Stars at the plate with a three-run homer in the second inning. Also, Matthew Schilling scored two runs, Brett Hostetler scored two runs and Trenton Ohnemus had a pair of RBIs.

Kenai 11, Palmer 3

The Kardinals are 6-3 in the Northern Lights Conference and 9-3 overall after the Friday victory at Kenai Little League fields.

Kenai was down 3-0 before scoring five in the fourth, three in the fifth and three in the sixth.

Braden Smith went all seven innings for the Kards, giving up three unearned runs on four hits while walking one and striking out nine.

Everett Chamberlain was 2 for 3 with two runs for Kenai, while Logan Mese was 2 for 4 with two runs.

Braden Smith added a pair of RBIs in support of his cause, while Jacob Joanis had two runs.

Homer 5, Redington 3

The host Mariners moved to 4-5 in the NLC and 9-7 overall with the Friday victory.

Homer trailed 3-1 entering the bottom of the fifth, but turned the tide with three runs in the bottom of the fifth.

Preston Stanislaw worked the first five innings for Homer, giving up three runs — two earned — on four hits while walking three and striking out six.

CJ Burns closed with a scoreless two innings, giving up one hit while whiffing three.

Burns also came through at the plate, going 3 for 4 with a run. Also, Clyde Clemens was 2 for 4 with a run and an RBI, Cohen Boyd was 2 for 3 with an RBI and Ben Engebretsen had two runs.
