Soccer: SoHi girls win, SoHi boys lose

The visiting Soldotna girls soccer team defeated Palmer 3-0 on Friday in nonconference action.

Sunny Miller had the shutout for the Stars. Bay Bloom had a pair of goals, one assisted by Sadie Lane. Liberty Miller, assisted by Morgan Lemm, had the other strike.

The visiting Stars fell to 4-2-1 overall with the nonconference loss.

The Moose scored early in the second half on a long shot that was made tough by the sun and the strong wind. Palmer then scored about 10 minutes later.

Simon Willets had a penalty kick for the Stars, but they could not find the equalizer.

“We had a huge push at the end of the game, but their keeper came up with save after save,” SoHi boys coach Erik Dolphin wrote in a text message.

The coach said Gehret Medcoff hit a screamer that went just over the bar for the last play of the game. Dolphin said the team put forward a great effort despite having to be out of the building the squad stayed in at 6:30 a.m.

“Very close,” Dolphin wrote. “Very intense. Tough game for us on our road trip.”
