Seward’s Kratz takes boys race at Dieckgraeff Invitational

Hunter Kratz led Kenai Peninsula runners with a victory in the boys race Friday at the Frank Dieckgraeff Cross Country Invitational in Seward.

Kratz covered the five-kilometer course in 16 minutes, 57 seconds, for the victory, while Quincy Fuller of Wasilla was second at 17:02. Also in the top 10 from the Peninsula were Jordan Beachy of Homer in fourth, Jared Brant of Homer in sixth and Aaron Swedberg of Soldotna in eighth. The Homer boys won the team title with 59 points, while Wasilla was second with 86.

In the girls race, Briahna Gerlach of Glennallen crossed the tape first at 18:43, while Kenai’s Jaycie Calvert was second at 19:31. Also from the Peninsula, Megan Pitzman of Homer was third, Ruby Lindquist of Seward was fifth, Ithaca Bergholtz of Kenai was sixth, Addison Gibson of Kenai was seventh and Alex Moseley of Homer was ninth.

Colony took the team battle on the girls side with 36 points, while Homer was second with 47 points.
