Saturday: Soldotna baseball fall to Juneau, Sitka

The Soldotna baseball team finished up play at the first Sitka American Legion Post 13 Wolves Baseball Tournament on Saturday with losses to Juneau-Douglas: Yadaa.at Kale and Sitka.

The Stars finished 0-5-1 at the tourney and are 0-5-1 overall.

In the opening game Saturday, the Stars dropped a 9-1 decision to the Crimson Bears.

Matthew Schilling and Colby Sturman had the hits for the Stars, while Sturman had the run and Jack Harper had the RBI.

Harper worked five innings and gave up eight runs — seven earned — on 12 hits, while Tucker Blough pitched the last inning and gave up a run on two hits.

Later Saturday, the Stars lost 4-2 to Sitka. SoHi led 2-1 heading to the bottom of the sixth, but gave up three runs.

Colby Sturman had a run and a hit for SoHi, while Trenton Ohnemus had a hit and an RBI.

Also, Jackson Koetitz had an RBI, Harper had a run, and Jett Brophy and Malakai BeDunnah had hits.

On the mound, Matthew Schilling gave an unearned run on a hit in four innings, and Easton Hawkins yielded three runs — two earned — on three hits in an inning.
